Avoiding Hangovers – Hydration

One ofBrookecoconut the most significant things you can do to combat the negative effects of alcohol is to keep the proportion of water in your system at its proper level. Since our bodies are ninety percent water, we hope you are drinking a bottle of water while you are reading this. You should be keeping the flow going all the time.

Alcohol displaces the water in your body because it is a diuretic, meaning it causes the body to send more of its water to the kidneys than it normally would. In effect, each beer, or glass of wine, or cocktail you drink is dehydrating you. And don’t think just because you’re drinking a cocktail that contains water, that you’ve done enough to counteract the dehydration process caused by alcohol. Drinking an adult beverage with a water base in it, say extra ice, tonic, club soda, or low-sugar fruit juices, is a better option than no water at all, but far from the best one.
